Learning outcome of the Activity:

Cultural Understanding:  to gain insights into Thai culture, traditions, and customs through visits to temples, and local markets.

Language Skills: to pick up basic Thai phrases and improve communication skills while interacting with locals.

Social Dynamics: to observe the daily life and social interactions of Bangkok residents, gaining a deeper appreciation for urban life in a Southeast Asian metropolis.

Economic Insights: to understand the economic landscape of Bangkok, including the importance of tourism and local businesses.

Art and Architecture Appreciation: to appreciate the unique blend of traditional and modern architecture, along with the vibrant street art scene.

Report on the Activity:

St. John International School Palghar organised its first international tour to Bangkok, Thailand from 28th September to 1st October 2024 . This four-day adventure was designed to immerse students in the rich culture, history, and attractions of Bangkok while providing educational experiences that complement our curriculum.

Day 1: Arrival in Bangkok

Students arrived at Suvarnabhumi Airport and were greeted by the local tour guide.After check-in at the Ambassador hotel Bangkok,  students were given time to rest and then explore the hotel. In the evening students headed to the shopping mall and then after dinner cruise on the Chao Phraya River. Students enjoyed stunning views of illuminated landmarks, including the Grand Palace and Wat Arun, while savouring traditional Thai cuisine.

Day 2: Safari World & Marine Park

Morning: Visit to Safari World, an expansive open zoo that allowed students to observe animals in their natural habitats. At Marine Park, students enjoyed various shows featuring dolphins, elephants, seals, and exotic birds. Highlights included a safari drive, where students saw zebras, giraffes, and lions up close. This interactive experience fostered appreciation for wildlife and conservation efforts. In the evening students had dinner at a local restaurant, featuring more Indian dishes, followed by a debriefing session about the day’s experiences.

Day 3: Cultural Exploration

Visit to Wat Pho, home to the famous Reclining Buddha and Wat Benchamabophit  the Temple of the Emerald Buddha. Students learned about the significance of Buddhist culture and the temple’s history and were captivated by the intricate architecture and spiritual importance of the site.In the evening free time for shopping at a local market, allowing students to engage with local culture and practise their bargaining skills.

Day 4: Gem Gallery & Madame Tussauds

Morning began with the visit to the Gem Gallery, where students learned about Thailand’s renowned gemstone industry, including the process of gem mining and crafting. This session included a demonstration, enhancing their understanding of local commerce. Later continued towards Madame Tussauds Bangkok, where students enjoyed taking photos with lifelike wax figures of celebrities, historical figures, and sports icons. This experience highlighted the intersection of art and pop culture.

Educational Impact

The tour provided students with a blend of fun and learning. Engaging with local culture, history, and wildlife fostered a deeper understanding of global perspectives. Activities were designed to encourage teamwork, adaptability, and respect for different cultures.

Conclusion

The first international school tour to Bangkok was a resounding success. Students returned with enriched knowledge, lasting memories, and a greater appreciation for cultural diversity. This experience not only broadened their horizons but also inspired a sense of global citizenship among participants. We look forward to planning future international tours that continue to promote educational and cultural exchange.
