 Learning outcome of the Activity:

  1. To understand the significance of soil and water quality in environmental sustainability.
  2. To learn about different methods of soil and water analysis.
  3. To observe laboratory procedures for testing soil and water samples.
  4. To correlate classroom learning with real-world applications.

Introduction

On 23rd July 2025, students of Grade VIII visited the Civil Department of St. John College of Engineering and Management for an educational session on Soil and Water Analysis. The session was conducted by Prof. Mr. Ashok Meti, who provided valuable insights into the importance of soil and water testing in environmental and civil engineering.

Students explored different soil types (sandy, clayey, loamy) and learned testing methods for pH, moisture, and nutrients, understanding their importance in agriculture and construction. The water analysis session covered key quality parameters like pH, turbidity, and hardness, demonstrating contamination testing and its role in public health. Hands-on pH testing of soil and water samples provided practical experience. The session also highlighted environmental conservation, showing how pollution affects soil and water quality while stressing sustainable practices. This visit effectively linked theory with real-world applications in environmental science.

The visit to the Civil Engineering Department was an enriching experience for the students. They gained practical knowledge about soil and water analysis, which helped them connect theoretical concepts with real-world applications. The session also highlighted the need for sustainable practices to protect our natural resources.
