On Saturday 21st September2024, the students of grade IX A and B from the St. John International School visited late. Jamnabai Vitthalbhai Shapariya Deaf and Dumb School, Palghar at 8.30am. Mrs. Jagruti and Mrs. Hitakshi accompanied the students.
The deaf and dumb school is located at Lokmanya Nagar, Palghar and managed by the trust Pratik Seva Mandal Palghar, where the especially abled students stay, eat, play, and learn by various methods under the guidance of the teachers. This school includes children of different ages, from nursery to standard tenth. The school consists of 80 to 90 children, basically from the rural areas and also from nearby areas. They also have hostels for students coming from faraway places and are dependent on the government schemes and donations received from the community.
The children were very pleasantly excited to receive the members of our entire team. The students of our team greeted the students with great enthusiasm. There was a huge smile on the faces of children and they were very happy to meet us. Our students admired them saying prayer, pledge and national anthem in sign language. Then the Principal Mr. Prashant Patil and Mr. Patil conducted a session for our students and explained to them about the way they teach students, what problems the students face, what type of hearing aids are used, etc. They showcased the art work like glass painting, candle making, false flower garlands, warli paintings, etc done by the students. It was really a splendid moment to learn things for our school students.
The students and teachers had donated eatables, books, stationeries, clothes, and many other things at deaf and dumb school. Food packets were distributed personally by the students to the specially abled students. They visited the different sections like speech therapy room, audiometry room, hostel rooms, and classrooms of the school.
It was indeed a very satisfying experience for the students as they could bring smiles on children’s faces. It was an excellent learning experience for the students.
