“Yoga is the journey of the self, through the self, to the self.”

Celebrating International Day of Yoga at school is a wonderful opportunity to introduce students to the practice of yoga and its numerous benefits. The theme for this year’s Yoga Day was “Yoga for Society and Self.”Grade I to VIII students and teachers  of St. John International school gathered in designated areas such as the school hall and outdoor space.  Trained yoga instructor, Mrs. Swati Dubey, also a parent of one of the students of our school , led the students through a series of yoga asanas. Mrs. Swati also delivered talks on the health benefits of yoga and how it can be integrated into daily life.

The session typically included breathing exercises (pranayama) and relaxation techniques to help students experience the calming effects of yoga. The session also included explanations of different yoga styles, meditation practices and discussions on the philosophy behind yoga. Students learnt about the historical and cultural significance of yoga in different societies. Yoga leads to improvement of physical, mental and spiritual health. Yoga practised with bare feet helps us deepen our connection with mother Earth. Yoga was initially practised by the sages in India as a means of holistic approach towards God and was later on passed to the common people. The event encouraged students to adopt healthy lifestyle practices and stress management techniques that can benefit them throughout their lives.

Overall, the Yoga Day celebration at school was a holistic and enriching experience that promoted physical fitness, mental relaxation, cultural awareness, and community spirit among students and educators alike.
