Since its inception in 2015, International Day of Yoga is celebrated on 21st June every year all over the world. This idea was proposed by our Prime Minister, Mr. Narendra Modi. He believes that Yoga is an invaluable gift of India’s ancient tradition. It embodies unity of mind and body, thought and action, restraint and fulfilment, harmony between man and nature, a holistic approach to health and well-being. It is not about exercise but to discover the sense of oneness with oneself.
Our Physical Education teachers conducted a meditation session first and helped students learn the positive impacts of meditation and understand the benefits of yoga. Students of Std I to V practiced Asanas and some Yoga exercises. The secondary section students carried their yoga mats and were very excited to perform Yoga on that day.
The International Yoga Day Logo was displayed to the students. The Physical Education Teachers explained to the students that the brown leaves symbolise the Earth element, the green leaves symbolise the Nature, blue symbolises the Water element, brightness symbolises the Fire element and the Sun symbolise the source of energy and inspiration. The logo reflects harmony and peace for humanity, which is the essence of Yoga. The students performed Pranayama ( breath control) and other asanas were also taught to them. Regular practice of yoga will surely help our students achieve a better life, physically, mentally and spiritually as well.
